IE Browser Testing

IE Browser Testing

Browser testing is a very important part of realizing a successful CSS project. Internet Explorer though is still the most popular browser on the web, splitting between versions 6 and 7. It is also a big pain. Although, version 7 is dominating as the time goes by, there’s still a handful of people using IE6. There are several engines on the web that can provide you screen shots of your design in IE6 for free, but due to traffic it can delay quite a bit.

You can have them immediately for a small fee. But why pay for it (and add another sum to your expenses), when you can actually have it for free?

IE Tester, is a great application that you can download on your hard drive and install it for free. It will show you how your design shows in IE5.5, IE6 and IE7 (I’m suspecting IE8 will be released, too, as the beta version out – fingers crossed).

IE6 has proved to be a pain for all designers that are concerned with the compatibility of their CSS code. With IE Tester you can view your design and work on your CSS immediately. I have used it and I love it! You just type your address on the tab and you’re ready to go!

There are, of course, many similar other projects online, but I haven’t used them all, so I cannot really provide any feedback on them. If you have experienced IT Tester or any of the following, please, do leave us your feedback for future references.

Browser Testing on IE versions:

  • Install multiple versions of IE on your PC by TredoSoft
  • IE NetRendender – I wasn’t very satisfied as I could not see the whole page, but nevertheless, a good one

Yeah there are lot of services like that out there, and usually work pretty well.

Your first bullet there at the end made me cringe a little
“Install multiple versions of IE on your PC…”
I hate the one version I have now, why would I want more?

    Just busting, heh.

I know how you feel. Inevitable evil!
Was feeling this way while uploading IE logo..

I find it so odd that we still confuse the word “Popular” with “most used”. Popular means that a LOT of people like something or someone.

I have yet to meet anyone who actually likes their Windows browser, and most don’t know that there are choices….

If Microsoft would offer their most forced upon applications and technologies to Unix and Mac users, like IE, Windows Media, well, that would help…

You just made my day. Some thoughts are worth so much more than the sum of their words.

Thank you thank you thank you! I’ve been trying to find a program that works with Vista and this is the only one that does.

Your site’s design is very beautiful. Keep up the good work.

Working with Internet Explorer is like working for that really cheesy, ivy league, “What’s up bro?” of a boss.

You can’t stand him and want to punch him in the face, but he pays your bills.

Ahh, looking forward to checking out IE Tester. Any kinks in it? I am so tired of using a Virtual PC for IE6, and the cutoff problem with NetRender is irritating. Nice find…And beautiful site there, Vicky!
